Operatives of the Adamawa Police Command have recovered three-year-old boy, Friday Okonkwo abducted and trafficked to Onitsha.

Recall that last week, a 24 year hair salon apprentice Blessing Okonkwo, resident of Kabang ward in Mubi town, headquarters of Mubi North LGA, Adamawa state was arrested for selling 4 years old boy at the cost N410, 000.00.

It was gathered that the lady who was initially reported to have sold her biological brother has turned out to be biological mother of the child who gave birth out of wedlock.

In a statement by the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahya Nguroje that the child was recovered from Efunaya Nabufe who had taken the victim to her sister in Onitsha, Enugu State.

The statement said: “following the initial report by Hauwa Lawan of Wubirgo Askira, UBA, Borno, that her son was stolen, new findings have emerged.

“Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Blessing Okonkwo, originally reported as the sister of the abducted child, is, in fact, the biological mother of the three-year-old boy, Friday Okonkwo. The said Hauwa Lawan, who initially reported and claimed to be the mother, is actually the grandmother.

“Blessing Okonkwo, aged 24 and residing in Kabang Ward, Mubi South, became pregnant with the child in 2019 after a relationship with an individual named Aboi from Anambra State.

Blessing Okonkwo misled her parents by claiming to enroll the child in school in Mubi. Instead she gave out the child to Ifunanya for adoption and requested N410,000 as support for a trade since she can’t take care of the child whom she gave birth out of wedlock.”

The statement stated that Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Dankombo Morris has directed the Gender and Family Support Unit to continue with the investigation and ensure the child is safely reunited with his family.

CP Morris also urged the public to remain vigilant about the whereabouts of their children and wards to prevent similar incidents.
